Összefoglalás

Long-term monitoring in unmanaged woodland nature reserves
Report No. 9
G. F. Peterken and Christa Backmeroff

Summary
This publication:
1. describes the history of five studies of changes in the structure and composition of unmanaged woodland reserves which have been sustained for more than 25 years;
2. draws lessons from these studies, with particular regard to the human element in long-term studies;
3. describes new baselines established in 1985-1987, which will enable these studies to be extended; and
4. briefly reviews the general value of such long-term permanent plot studies.
The aim here is not to set out the ecological results, which have been or will be published elsewhere. Rather, it is to collect together the experience of maintaining studies successfully over many decades, so that similar studies may be more realistically undertaken in the future. The publication's theme is the human face of long-term ecological research.
